Our Approach:We apply (CBT)and other evidence based approaches. In contrast to traditional talk therapy, there is less emphasis on the past and more attention given on increasing self-awareness, behavior changes and acquiring new skills. Clients are encouraged to work hard to see results fast. Improvements often show within just a few sessions. In our work we draw from the following treatment principles: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Positive Psychology
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT):Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on helping individuals gain perspective on irrational, maladaptive and self-defeating thoughts by examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. CBT is goal-oriented and tends to be short-term. Techniques drawn from CBT guide the client to identify and explore patterns of thinking and the beliefs that direct these thoughts. Clients learn strategies to modify negative or anxious thinking patterns and are empowered to tolerate uncertainty and discomfort and engage in healthy non-avoidant behaviors.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):Acceptance and Commitment therapy focuses on increasing the client's willingness to experience negative emotions highlighting that the struggle to avoid any negative emotions causes suffering and other long-term negative consequences. Techniques drawn from ACT shift the focus from trying to avoid negative emotions to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. Clients are guided to clarifying what matters and encouraged to actively increase value oriented behaviors.
Mindfulness:Mindfulness helps restore and maintain a sense of well being and develop the skills to avoid emotional and physical depletions. Mindfulness training focuses on conscious awareness and attention of the present moment in a non-judgmental way. It allows individuals to mobilize their inner resources. Clients learn to observe the content of thoughts without identifying with them allowing the individual to respond rationally to challenging demands instead of reacting to them driven by emotions.
Positive Psychology:Positive psychology emphasizes a client's strengths and virtues focusing on emotional, psychological, and social well-being. The client is supported to foster genuine happiness and a well-lived and fulfilling life.
